Summer 2008    The "Green Initiative" Issue

NEWS FROM CREWS

Hello! We're excited to share with you that we have recently joined the U. S. Green Building Council (“USGBC”) and launched our “Green Initiative".  As part of this effort we will be publishing this newsletter only in an electronic format.

Why go Green?  Commercial office buildings in the U. S. consume 30% of our total energy and 70% of our electricity in addition to using 5 billion gallons of potable water per day to flush toilets and generating 2.5 pounds of solid waste per square foot of floor space. Green building practices can substantially reduce these negative environmental impacts.

Get involved! Over the next year we will be implementing many new programs, including energy conservation and recycling drives, and we encourage everyone to join our "Green Initiative" both at work and at home. If you have any "green" ideas or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!

WHAT IS GREEN COMPUTING?

Each year more and more computers are purchased and put to use, but it’s not just the number of computers that is driving energy consumption upward. The way that we use computers also adds to the increasing energy burden. Research reveals that most personal desktop computers are not being used the majority of the time they are running and many personal computers nationwide are needlessly left on continuously.

UPCOMING RECYCLING DRIVE

We are in the process of planning our first Recycling Drive, where our customers could bring old computers and other outdated office equipment. In an attempt to plan the event better, we ask each one of our customers to provide us with an estimate of the items they would like to recycle. To view a complete list of the items we will be accepting and to print an estimate form, click here...

GOING "GREEN" AT HOME

Implementing "green" practices at home is just as important. Not only can you reduce your carbon footprint but also save money. Simple solutions such as using Compact Fluorescent light bulbs and turning off faucets when not in use could make a big difference. To read our Going "Green" at Home Guide, click here...
